Nepal vegetable greeting card

Accompany your gifts with a mini vegetable greeting card, handmade in Nepal. This plant map is made of Lokta paper, a traditional medium used for centuries by Buddhists and Hindus to write or print sacred verses and songs on it. Lokta paper is made from fibers of Daphne plants, which grow in the Himalayas.

Origins of Lokta paper

Traditionally, Lokta paper comes from the high regions of the Himalayas. It is made from fibers of Daphne plants, endemic to this environment. Harvesting of plants is done by pruning them and letting them grow, making them a continuous source of raw material. Petals of local flowers, fine twigs of leaves, or unique leaves with beautiful shapes are sometimes incorporated into decorative papers. Traditional blank paper has been used for over 1200 years, especially for ritual printing of Buddhist blocks and Hindu and Buddhist manuscripts. Lokta paper is commonly used in culturally rich areas like Kathmandu Valley, Varanasi, and Tibetan monasteries due to its exceptional durability and wonderful texture.
