This Tibetan garnet mala is a magnificent piece, entirely handmade. Composed of semi-precious stones, this necklace is embellished with some Tibetan pearls. These pearls are all in simplicity and made of brass and strips of turquoise and coral. This alliance of blue and red color is typically Tibetan. These beads are stopping points of the mala, and help to split up the counting of mantras.

The mala is a medium of meditation for Buddhists and Hindus. It is used to count the number of mantras (prayers) recited in a loop. Buddhists use sound, the vibration of the voice, to channel the mind and detach it from the physical world. The recitation of mantras is intended to bring calm and to direct the mind towards meditation. Buddhists all over the world string this rosary at various times of the day; and when not in use, wear it around the neck. A mala is always held with the left hand. We remove it by pulling the grains towards ourselves, thus symbolizing that we pull beings out of suffering and that we accumulate positive Karma during the practice.
