The properties of amazonite
In lithotherapy, amazonite is a stone of appeasement. Attached to the heart chakra, it promotes the relaxation of emotions, and attached to the throat chakra, it strengthens communication.
Amazonite owes its name to the Amazon River where it was discovered by Francisco de Orellana in 1540. This Spanish explorer introduced the magnificent green-blue stone to the Western world. Yet amazonite has been used since the dawn of time in Africa, Asia and South America. Among the Egyptians, amazonite holds a prominent place in the cult of the dead. The most famous example is that of the mask of Tutankhamun, adorned with twelve rows of fine stones, including amazonite, lapis lazuli and quartz. In Mesopotamia, amazonite was dedicated to Tiamat, goddess of the oceans where chaos reigned. The Navajo Indians associated the stone with Estsanatlehi, the goddess at the origin of the creation of humanity.
The main deposits of amazonite are in India, South Africa, Brazil, Colorado, and Russia.
