Cultured pearls

The birth of a pearl is an event in itself! Unlike gemstones which are mined from the earth, pearls are created by oysters and other molluscs, in the open ocean or in fresh water. Gemstones need to be cut and polished to reveal their beauty, but pearls are naturally beautiful. A natural pearl begins its life as a foreign object inside the oyster, it can be a grain of sand or another foreign body that the oyster cannot expel. The oyster protects itself from this annoying element and begins to secrete a smooth and hard crystalline substance around it. This substance is called nacre. As long as the foreign object remains in its body, the oyster will continue to secrete nacre around it, layer after layer. After some time, the foreign body will be totally covered with a silky coating. The result: a graceful, soft, shimmering gem called a pearl.

Cultured pearl jewelry is also made from natural pearls. The only difference is that the small foreign body is delicately deposited in the mollusk. The pearl farming process is surgically precise and caring because each pearl oyster can produce many pearls throughout its life.

Our cultured pearl jewelery is handmade in India and the pearls come mainly from freshwater farms. In India, three species of freshwater molluscs are commonly used: Lamellidens marginalis, L. corrianus and Parreysia corrugata. Indian pearls have been known since time immemorial. Admired all over the world as the finest "oriental pearls", they are in high demand in the local and international market.

Cultured pearl jewelry is back in fashion this year! These baroque jewels that were classified in the category "grandmother's jewels" are making a strong comeback. Pearl choker necklaces are the most popular, but pearls are gracefully available in all jewelry.

The properties of amazonite

In lithotherapy, amazonite is a stone of appeasement. Attached to the heart chakra, it promotes the relaxation of emotions, and attached to the throat chakra, it strengthens communication.

Amazonite owes its name to the Amazon River where it was discovered by Francisco de Orellana in 1540. This Spanish explorer introduced the magnificent green-blue stone to the Western world. Yet amazonite has been used since the dawn of time in Africa, Asia and South America. Among the Egyptians, amazonite holds a prominent place in the cult of the dead. The most famous example is that of the mask of Tutankhamun, adorned with twelve rows of fine stones, including amazonite, lapis lazuli and quartz. In Mesopotamia, amazonite was dedicated to Tiamat, goddess of the oceans where chaos reigned. The Navajo Indians associated the stone with Estsanatlehi, the goddess at the origin of the creation of humanity.

The main deposits of amazonite are in India, South Africa, Brazil, Colorado, and Russia.

The material of your ANDAMAN freshwater pearl and amazonite bracelet

Brass jewelry Omyoki are without gold plating because plating rarely lasts over time. Plain brass will tarnish over time, but with proper care, it will retain all its shine. Here's how maintain your brass jewelry.

Brass or "yellow copper" is a metal alloy mainly composed of copper and zinc. Easy to process, and inexpensive, it is used in many fields, especially in jewelry. Brass is a very robust alloy, which is long lasting. Indeed, a brass ornament is resistant to both corrosion and salt water. Brass has been used in jewelry for hundreds of years. It was mainly Indian artisans who initiated this use, which subsequently became common. Having become very trendy today, brass jewelry is on the rise!
